On Wednesday October 9th, Miss Willmott, Erin, and a select group of Year 10 VM students attended an Industry Insights excursion at Freighter (formerly MaxiTRANS), organized through our Alumni program, alongside students from Ballarat High School.

Our day began with a safety induction where we received our PPE—safety hats, vests, and ear plugs. We then listened to a panel of employees from various roles, including administration, engineering, and production management. One notable speaker was Daniel Grundell, a Ballarat Secondary College alum and mechanical engineer. It was impressive to learn that Freighter employs over 470 people, making it one of the largest employers in Ballarat!

After the panel discussion, we took a tour of the factory, which was massive, and observed the production of trailers. Once the tour concluded, we enjoyed lunch and had the opportunity to ask questions and discuss potential future pathways. It was an informative and inspiring day!
