Special visitor!

Last week, we were fortunate to have a special visitor in our nature box, which Miss Muir captured beautifully during her Prep Yard Duty. It was a wonderful reminder of the amazing wildlife we have in our school community!

Disposing of Waste

During a recent assembly, the Green Team addressed the students about the importance of proper waste disposal, emphasizing the message "if in doubt, leave it out."  They highlighted the need for everyone to carefully consider what items from their lunch boxes belong in each bin to reduce waste and protect our environment.  We encourage you to have a discussion with your child about this topic to reinforce these lessons at home.

Last week, we celebrated international e-waste day.  We have been learning a lot about e-waste of late. Electronic waste (or ‘e-waste’) is any item with a power cord or battery.  E-waste cannot be placed into any bin.  It can be disposed of for free using your annual hard waste collection or taken to a waste transfer station for disposal (a small fee may apply). Batteries should never be placed into landfill bins, as they can start fires in collection trucks and leach harmful chemicals into the environment. Batteries can be taken to Aldi, Woolworths, Officeworks and Bunnings stores for recycling.  Luckily, at Solway we take your E-waste!  Please dispose of any E- waste properly, by using deposit bins in your local area or dropping them into the designated bin near the front office.

A photo is attached of where you can find the bins at school.
