Year 3/4
Term 4 in 3/4!
We are excited to share the wonderful progress our 3/4s have been making since returning to school. Our first week focused on deepening the connections within the Learning Community as we welcomed new students and staff. Students have settled in well and have come back eager and ready to learn. They are doing a fantastic job of following classroom expectations. Here is a snapshot of the exciting learning experiences that have taken place so far.
In Maths, students explored the concept of length, focusing on using the correct units of measurement and making connections between length, area, and perimeter. A favourite activity involved measuring the length of our jumps, which helped solidify their understanding of measuring distance in metres and centimetres. Students also planned an imaginative “tour around the school for a snail,” incorporating their measurement skills and teamwork.
Through our Multiplication unit, students have been developing their multiplicative thinking by exploring strategies to solve larger multiplication problems. They are learning new ways to approach these challenges, which is building their confidence with numbers.
In English, we read the thought-provoking text ‘Fox’, which provided opportunities for vocabulary development and making inferences. Students were engaged in making predictions about the text and searching for evidence to support their ideas. We have also spent time exploring the structure of paragraphs, learning how to craft them with purpose and clarity. Additionally, we delved into the world of fables. The students have identified the morals in classic stories and used that knowledge to develop their own unique fables. This week, we have begun exploring poetry while reading ‘Mulga Bill’s Bicycle’, written by Banjo Patterson. Students have enjoyed experimenting with different rhythm and rhyming patterns and have practised crafting a variety of poems.
As a part of our Core Literacy lessons, students have continued to develop their handwriting skills while focusing on the structures of sentences and parts of speech. They have also practised using different types of sentences in their writing such as statements and questions, while applying the correct punctuation.
We are so proud of the hard work and enthusiasm the students have shown. We look forward to seeing what the rest of the term brings!
