Assistant Principal Report Senior School

by Aaron Petersen

As we near the start of our exam period, I am delighted to reflect on the remarkable achievements of our students.

Celebrating Year 12

The final weeks of the academic year have been filled with memorable events for our Year 12 students. Their creativity and school spirit shone brightly during the dress-up days, where they embraced the opportunity to express themselves and celebrate the end of their high school journey. The final assembly is always a special occasion, celebrating the accomplishments and friendships that have been built over the years.  It was so delightful to hear the student band play, spontaneously joined by the graduating class of 2024.  Congratulations to all of our graduating students.

Exam preparation is now in full swing. Our languages, music and theatre studies students have already commenced their exams and most other students begin next week.

I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to our Year 12 teachers for their outstanding effort throughout the year. Because of their hard work I am confident that our students will excel in their final assessments.

Upcoming Exams

Year 12 exams commence on Tuesday, October 29. This is a crucial time for our students, and we encourage them to prepare thoroughly while also taking care of their well-being. Student access to the senior centre will be restricted during this time.

Year 10 and 11 exams will begin on Monday, November 11. We wish all our students the very best as they approach these important assessments.

2025 Student Leadership

Throughout the term, all students in Years 7-11 have been notified of the student leadership roles available next year. They have also received the 2025 Student Leaders Handbook, which contains information about each of roles as well as the selection process and criteria.  The nomination form must be completed and returned by Friday 1 November.  I encourage you to discuss these opportunities with your child.

Subject confirmation

All families in Years 9-11 should already have received confirmation of subjects for the 2025 academic year.   Students should speak with their year level coordinator if this has not been received.

Theatre Studies Monologues

Our hardworking Unit 4 Theatre Studies students have been working to perfect their monologues in preparation for their performance exams.  Last week they each performed a six minute solo performance in front of families, friends and staff.    The audience was eager to support our students, and we are very proud of their amazing efforts.

SMR Athletics

Our elite senior athletes were on the track again this week, winning medals at the Southern Metropolitan Athletics Championships. Four senior students qualified for the State Championships across nine events. Sophie C (Year 11) was particularly strong, dominating her age group and winning three events. Congratulations to all of our gold medallists!
