Grade 4
Reading:
The Grade 4s have been reading *Fox* by Margaret Wild, a powerful story about the relationships between three animals: Dog, Fox, and Magpie. The story follows an injured magpie and a one-eyed dog who live peacefully together in the forest, until a jealous fox arrives and disrupts their bond, teaching them about loneliness and betrayal. After reading the book, we discussed the plot, the unique traits of each character, and how their actions affect one another. We also examined how the font and illustrations add depth to the story, conveying emotions and enhancing the impact of key moments.
Writing
In Grade 4, students are diving into the exciting world of narrative writing! They are learning how to craft engaging stories by developing characters, setting the scene, and creating intriguing plots. Through daily reviews of narrative skills and group discussions, the students are discovering the power of imagination and expression. This hands-on approach is helping them to not only improve their writing skills but also to share their unique voices and perspectives. We can’t wait to see the incredible stories they’ll create!
Maths
This week saw the grade 4 students looking at area. They were able to calculate the area of any shape by multiplying the length and width. This is a skill that will be extended on in year 5 and indeed will be a useful skill to have. The students started looking at shapes of 2 dimension and simple squares and rectangles. They then designed their own floor plans of the dream homes.
Integrated
The Grade 4’s have been investigating what rules and laws are. We have been looking at what the differences are and why we make them. Students were explaining what some of the rules in their households were and why they have been put in place. Hopefully they have started following them more!
