Grade 3
Reading:
We are thrilled to announce that our Grade 3 students are starting an exciting novel study of Matilda by Roald Dahl! This story follows a remarkable young girl with a love for books, a clever mind, and a knack for surprising people. As we dive into Matilda’s world, students will explore themes of friendship, courage, and standing up for what’s right.
Throughout our novel study, we’ll focus on character traits, setting descriptions, and events that shape the story. We’ll also discuss Matilda's unique qualities and how she deals with challenges in her life. This book provides many opportunities for lively discussions and imaginative thinking, and students will have the chance to express their ideas through writing and artwork.
We look forward to an exciting journey with Matilda!
Writing
Our Grade 3 students have been honing their skills with conjunctions to create strong compound sentences. They’re revisiting ways to use words like and, but, or, and so to link ideas smoothly, making their writing more interesting and connected. By practising with these “joining words,” students are building more complex sentences that clearly show relationships between ideas.Additionally, we have focused on including greater descriptive detail in our narrative writing, painting a vivid picture in the readers mind. We are looking forward to some amazing and enchanting stories being created by our writers!
Maths
In Maths, our Grade 3 students have been learning all about turns and angles! We’re exploring different types of turns—like quarter turns, half turns, and full turns—and how they relate to directions and shapes in our everyday lives.
We’re also investigating three types of angles: right angles, which form a perfect corner; acute angles, which are smaller than a right angle; and obtuse angles, which are larger than a right angle. Students have been practising identifying these angles in classroom objects and even around the playground!
