Principal's Report

It is with great enthusiasm that I return to our wonderful school after my time away. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ben Fitzpatrick for his leadership during my absence. His ability to feel at home with our school community, coupled with his commitment to ensuring the smooth running of daily operations, has been greatly appreciated. I also feel fortunate to have such capable and supportive colleagues.

I would like to express my gratitude to our staff, students, and families for continuing to foster the warm and welcoming spirit that makes St. Mary’s so special. On a personal note, my family is absolutely thrilled with the arrival of our son, Oliver Bernie O'Shannessy. Being granted the time to focus on the invaluable first few weeks of his life during the start of Term 4 was much appreciated.

St Mary's School Feast Day

A special occasion to celebrate the Feast of the Presentation of Mary, commemorating her dedication to God at the temple, was held with great joy and enthusiasm at our school. This significant day provided an opportunity to deepen our connection with the Presentation Sisters and honour their enduring legacy within our community.

Yesterday, students and staff came together for a whole-school Mass, which was a meaningful time of prayer and reflection. This sacred gathering underscored our shared values and the spiritual foundation of our school.

The celebration continued with a variety of activities that left students beaming with excitement. A delicious celebratory cake was shared, symbolising the unity and spirit of our community. Students, along with St Mary's playgroup children, then engaged in thrilling activities such as navigating an inflatable gauntlet and playing laser tag, which were met with cheers and laughter throughout the day.

The vibrant atmosphere and the students' enthusiasm highlighted the importance of creating moments that not only honour our traditions but also bring our community closer together. It was truly a day to remember, filled with faith, fun, and a sense of belonging.

A letter from the Director of Catholic Education Sandhurst Ltd, Kate Fogarty, will be sent home with students today. This document explains the Magnify Program and its positive impact on Sandhurst Schools. Beginning in 2025, this evidence-based initiative is designed to create a thriving learning environment for your child. As previously mentioned, staff have started training and professional development to ensure our curriculum is delivered with high fidelity. Additional training will be required for staff in 2025.

Graduation Mass and Nativity Play

As the year draws to a close, we are thrilled to invite all parents, families, and friends to our Graduation Mass and Whole-School Nativity Play. This special evening is an opportunity to honour our graduating Year 6 class, celebrate their achievements, and welcome the Christmas season with the joy and wonder of our traditional Nativity Play.

Our students have been hard at work rehearsing their roles, and their excitement is growing as they bring this beloved story to life.

Following the Mass, a BBQ dinner will be provided, offering the perfect opportunity for our school community to gather, share stories, and reflect on the year’s blessings.

We encourage everyone to join us for this memorable celebration—a time to congratulate our Year 6 students as they prepare for their next chapter and embrace the spirit of Christmas together. We can’t wait to see you there!
