Year 9 PASS Bronze Medallion Award

In Term 4, Year 9 PASS students took part in the Royal Life Saving Bronze Medallion course, where they developed a wide range of essential water safety and rescue skills. Each session focused on a different component of the course, with teachers offering clear instructions and practical demonstrations to help students master the required techniques.

 

Bronze Medallion Course Components:

 

- **Theory Exam / Online Completion Certificate**

- **Assessment 1:** Resuscitation

- **Assessment 2:** Reach Rescue

- **Assessment 3:** Throw (Unweighted Rope)

- **Assessment 4:** Timed Tow (50m swim and 50m contact tow in under 3 minutes 15 seconds)

- **Assessment 5:** Timed Swim (400m swim in under 13 minutes)

- **Assessment 6:** Accompanied Rescue

- **Assessment 7:** Tow

- **Assessment 8:** Spinal Injury Management

- **Assessment 9:** Defensive Techniques

- **Assessment 10:** Search and Rescue (approx. 2m depth)

- **Assessment 11:** Recovery and Resuscitation

- **Assessment 12:** Initiative

 

Throughout the course, students demonstrated dedication and hard work, acquiring both practical and theoretical knowledge to meet the high standards of the Bronze Medallion. Not only did they gain invaluable life-saving skills, but they also built confidence in their ability to respond effectively to water emergencies. 

 

A special thank you to Mr. Iain Jones for his expert instruction and guidance over the five-week program, which equipped students with the necessary skills to succeed.

Year 9 Science 

Year 9 Science class have been learning about Ecosystems and made terrariums in a lessons last week. 

HSC Geography - Macquarie Marshes

The HSC Geographers travelled to the Macquarie Marshes to investigate the ephemeral functioning of the ecosystem. Students explored the fresh water riverine wetland, kayaking on the southern marshlands. They were amazed by the variety of birdlife. They then completed an evaluation of the human impacts to the ecosystem. A big thank you to Mr Bell and M Jones for their assistance on this valuable fieldwork experience.
