Mistique Beresford and Nevaeh Mills, Yalari Seniors
My name is Nevaeh Mills, I am a proud Kulkalgal and Meriam Mir woman from the Torres Straits and I come from Weipa. In 2019, Yalari partnered with Clayfield College for the first time, marking the beginning of my boarding journey alongside three other girls.
Mistique and I are the first Yalari graduates from Clayfield College. We have achieved a milestone that is meaningful for both the school and our communities. Over the past six years, we supported each other, sharing challenges and successes, and I am incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished. By joining Clayfield as the first Yalari students, we carried the responsibility of paving the way for all future Yalari students.
Watching the younger Yalari students follow in our footsteps fills me with pride and accomplishment. Mistique and I have given them the opportunity to start their journey with guidance and support. We’ve created a strong sense of community within our Yalari group at Clayfield, and I feel a deep bond with each of them. We look out for one another, and I truly respect and cherish every girl in our Yalari family here.
One of my favourite Yalari memories was a recent trip to Mt. Perisher with Mistique, where I saw snow for the first time. Reconnecting with friends in Yalari before I take my next step also made it a special experience. I am forever grateful for these experiences, which have taught me so much beyond just academics.
The challenges I’ve faced and the support I’ve received has been a strong foundation for my future, and I hope that the younger Yalari students continue to work hard, so they too can experience the pride of graduating from Clayfield College.
