Year 5 and 6

IMAX

The Grade 6's headed to IMAX on Monday to see 'Extreme Weather' and 'Volcanoes 3D'. As always, the students were excited to catch the train but were not so enthused as we walked back to school from Mitcham Station. Students saw some incredible footage of natural disasters on the big screen and it was another valuable experience to travel on public transport.

Year 6 Bike Ed Program

Year 6 students were today introduced to our Bike Education Program. For the next 3 Fridays, students are required to have their bike at school and will complete training exercises in preparation for the Bike Hike on December 9. Students learnt to check their bike using 'ABCD' - Air, Brakes, Chain, Drop. Students with unsafe bikes will not be able to ride so please ensure your child's bike has had a safety check (the closer to next Friday the better) and that they have an approved bike helmet. Students will be bringing home a safety checklist - please ask them for it.

Moving into the Teen Years

Our sessions for this program begin on Thursday, for the next 3 weeks. They will be held during school time and run by experienced presenters. After each session, there is usually a little bit of homework for students to complete with parents - it would be appreciated if you can support us in this way. We still have a number of families who have yet to complete the permission and payment on Compass. To assist with our planning, please check on Compass and complete any outstanding items. The portal will be closing tonight.

School Magazine: Vermont Views

The Vermont Views magazine is available for purchase for $15. This is a great keepsake of 'the year that was' and a fun way to track your child's journey through their school years. The magazine has every 2024 class included, special items from the specialist subjects, and a reflection from the student leaders and the Principals. 

Orders can now be placed through the Compass Parent Portal, under the Shop Menu. To access the Shop Menu from the app, click the ‘More’ button at bottom right of screen. Then click on the 'Shop' tile.  

If you would like to purchase a copy, you will need to do it before it closes on the 6th of December 2024.

Year 5 Excursion to Imax

As part of our Adaptations Unit, the Year 5's will be travelling to Imax on December 12th and watching two films/documentaries. These films highlight amazing animals and the unique adaptations that enable them to survive in the Serengeti and the Arctic. Keep an eye on Compass, as the permissions and payment portal will open soon.
