Edendale Farm Excursion
This term, our Year 3 students have been diving into the world of recycling and waste management as part of their Inquiry Unit, Oh, What a Waste! As part of this exciting program, students enjoyed an excursion to Edendale Farm, where they took part in various hands-on activities. They participated in a rubbish sort and relay, transformed junk into creative art, toured the farm, and learnt about the importance of conserving water.
This experience has deepened their understanding of waste and inspired them to think creatively about recycling and sustainability. Here are some photos of the day:
War on Waste: Tote Bag Project
This term, as part of our focus on 'War on Waste', students learnt about the environmental impact of textile disposal. They discovered ways to reduce textile waste in landfill and reuse items of clothes through recycling. In a hands-on activity, the students repurposed old t-shirts to create their own unique tote bags. This project helped the students to understand the value of recycling textiles and inspire them to think creatively about sustainable practices in everyday life.
Sea Life Aquarium Excursion
Year 4 students will be travelling via bus to the Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium on Tuesday, 10th December. The students will participate in a 2-hour guided tour, followed by another hour of exploration after lunch. The cost per student is $39 and permission and payment is due by Tuesday, 3rd December via Compass.
Inquiry Project
As part of our ongoing exploration of the Great Barrier Reef, students are continuing their Inquiry project for this term. They have very excited to work together with their groups to research the many facts about their chosen topic. In the next coming weeks, the students will be using their research to create 3D models that will help to teach a scientific topic. All classes will discuss the materials students could use for their 3D models. If students would like to bring other specific material, they are more than welcome to bring it to their classrooms.
Year 4 Artwork from the Art Show
This year's Art Show at Vermont Primary School was a stunning success, showcasing the incredible talents of our students across all grade levels. It was amazing to see all students and their families coming to support the student’s artwork.
We are proud to share some snapshots of the artwork that the Year 3s and 4s have produced throughout the year.
Year 4 Literacy Circles
Year 4 students have been participating in Literacy Circle reading sessions this term. The sessions allow students to make their own choice of text to read and discuss with others. This has been a great platform towards Year 5 and 6 literacy work that will follow in the next two years. This week, 4PS students made the most of some good weather to enjoy one of these sessions outside.
The Vermont Views magazine is available for purchase for $15. This is a great keepsake of 'the year that was' and a fun way to track your child's journey through their school years. The magazine has every 2024 class included, special items from the specialist subjects, and a reflection from the student leaders and the Principals.
