Focus on the 4 R's
In Sustainability, we focus on the 4 R's - Refuse, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. The more we can think and do one of these 'R's' in our everyday life, the bigger the impact on our environment.
Why is reusing things so good for the environment? Because it keeps our valuable resources and materials in use and out of landfill. Every time you reuse, share, borrow or buy second-hand, you’re reducing the need to make new products. And that reduces our consumption of water, energy, fuel, natural resources and greenhouse gas emissions!
There are many ways to donate, trade, borrow, buy or sell pre-loved items so they are used for as long as possible, reducing your impact on the environment. Examples include community recycling programs, charity 'op shops', swap parties, tool and toy libraries and online marketplaces.

This week, Year 3 students were asked to bring an old T-shirt to school. Within a short time, and with only a pair of scissors, students turned the T-shirt into a tote bag. With Christmas coming up, consider making material tinsel with red and green or red and white scraps of material. Or using larger pieces of material as gift wrap.
