Exciting Road Smarts Program for Year 10 Students

We are thrilled to announce the return of the Road Smarts program for our Year 10 students, taking place during Week 9 of Term 4 (2nd – 6th December). This year, we’re excited to build on the success of last year’s program, with several new additions that will make it even more engaging and beneficial for our students and the wider community.

The Road Smarts program is designed to equip students with essential road safety knowledge and skills. It offers hands-on experiences in defensive driving, first aid training, and important insights into road safety from community experts, including first responders, AustDrive instructors, and our local police and fire services.

One of the highlights of this year’s program is the defensive driving component, where students will have the opportunity to get behind the wheel with fully licensed drivers at Moama Speedway. This practical experience will help them develop crucial driving skills and a deeper understanding of road safety.

Additionally, we are excited to announce the inclusion of Steering for the Future, where students will have the chance to experience V8 simulators. This activity will allow them to simulate high-performance driving in a controlled, safe environment, helping them learn the importance of control and decision-making on the road.

In addition to driving and simulator experiences, our Year 10 students will be completing a Certificate II in First Aid, ensuring they are prepared to handle emergencies on and off the road.

We are incredibly grateful for all the community partners who have supported and contributed to this program. Their involvement will help us provide a well-rounded, hands-on experience for our students, with insights from key organizations such as Victoria Police, Fire & Rescue, SafeWork NSW, AustDrive, and more.

This is a fantastic initiative that not only benefits our students but contributes to making our local roads safer for everyone. By fostering collaboration between local agencies and the school, we are working together to provide our students with the knowledge and skills needed to make responsible, life-saving decisions on the road.

We look forward to seeing our students grow and learn through this unique program and thank our community partners for their continued support. Stay tuned for more updates, and we encourage all parents and guardians to get involved and support this exciting program.

If you would like to be involved in 2025 please contact the school.

Year 8 Community Engagement and Volunteering

What a great opportunity the students have had to contribute to the community this semester. There have been 19 students from Year 8 who have chosen the elective Community Engagement and Volunteering and have participated enthusiastically and positively in different ways. The students have assisted at the Twin Rivers Specialist School in the classroom and with preparation for their athletics day. Cunningham Downs retirement village has had several visits, where the students spent time assisting them with activities and speaking to them about their lives.

The Moama Anglican Grammar Primary school and Resource Centre have had volunteers assisting the students with classroom tasks in Kinder, Year 1, Year 2, Year 3 and Year 5 and the students have assisted with book and resource collation. The students have visited the Epicentre Church Op Shop and have assisted with the many donations that need to be processed. Lastly the group have done community litter pick up around the school, the Moama Adventure Park and the Moama Recreation Reserve. What a busy semester! A big thankyou to all the co-ordinators that have worked with the students as they have learnt what it is like to volunteer and instilled in them the value of volunteering and engaging with the community for their future lives.

"While doing community engagement I learnt that kindness is free and that helping others feels so nice. I also found that helping people can also be hard work so not to be scared of a little hard work. I feel like that this subject is perfect for anyone who wants to be really active doing something. Something I have learnt about myself is that I like helping people and that I can do anything."  Hugh Campbell

"In the primary school at Moama Anglican Grammar, I have helped kids read, complete Essential Assessment tests and other mostly English related worksheets and activities. Also, at this school in the library (Resource Centre) I have returned books, cleaned them, organised them into the computer system and put them back on shelves. Not to mention I have done other things to help out in the library such as: organising legos, organizing Cubit’s to put them away and helping kids during their library lessons on occasion. While at the specialist school I was helping special needs kids my age with their classwork and during their PDHPE class. I had the opportunity to play half-court basketball and gaga ball with them and it was a very memorable experience. On the last lesson with the specialist kids, I went to a Year 3 classroom and helped kids make paper rockets and complete a puzzle. During one of the single lessons, once a week, I would pick up litter around the senior school, at the local woodpark and ovals. Cleaning up the environment is very important to me, and I am glad I was able to participate in this activity." Willow Martin
