Letting Their Lights Shine
Last week, our Year 12 Drama students completed their HSC Trial Examinations as part of the 2025 Year 12 Drama Showcase. My wife and I attended the evening, and we were impressed by the immense talent of our young men. The evening consisted of two parts, the first part being the group performances. There were two groups, one group performed ‘Prison Break’ and transported the audience into the trials and tribulations of a group of prisoners who, let's say, were not the smartest criminals trying to break out of prison. The second group performed ‘The Ball,’ a cricketing story that took us on a historic journey of a family relationship to the game of cricket and the infamous ball that was lost and then discovered again over time. Both pieces were equally dramatic as they were comedic. The ability of our young men to get into character and tell a believable story is a real skill, and they should be so proud of their performance on the night.
The second part of the evening was the individual performances. We were treated to a rollercoaster of emotions as our students told their stories through a video and performances. From heartbreaking stories of losing a friend through a drink driving accident to pieces relating to potato peelers and the king of rock, Elvis Presley, we were truly blessed to witness a wonderful night at the theatre.
On top of this, two of our students made posters and a promotion where they create a Director’s Vision for a play and then designed all the material to promote the play. Another student did a 3500-word Director’s Folio, which outlines their full vision for the play. His job was to convey to the reader all aspects of their show (Death of a Salesman), set, costume, lighting and how to collaborate with the actors. These projects take so much work and dedication, and once again, our young men should be so proud.
Congratulations to all the young men involved: Thomas, Marco, Mateusz, Stefan, Jordan, Michael, Dylan, Augustus, Xavier, and Elijah.
The night could not have been successful without the tremendous amount of dedication that our Head of Performing Arts, Ms Rebecca Duff, has put into working with our students. I would also like to thank all the parents and carers who came along to support their sons.
On another note, the College witnessed two amazing performances by Dylan at our College Assembly last week. Dylan is an outstanding young man who has so much talent. After his drama performance earlier in the week, he played guitar and sang at our College assembly. We are all in awe of his performance. Anyone who takes on two practical subjects for their HSC must be so organised and committed, and Dylan has both of those qualities, and we wish him well for his HSC practical performances that he and the other students will undertake over the next few weeks.
