Library Monitors Update

In Library this term the students have been learning about Fiction, Non- Fiction, Authors & lots of different and fun books. Here are St. Leonards Library Monitors to give you an update on what the students have been doing in Library .
Preps:
This term we bring information for you about the Preps. These inquisitive little brains have been colouring in T-shirts with bright colours . This is because they have read lots of colourful story books which have given them lots of ideas for their t-shirts. Along with this the preps have also been learning how to borrow books to read at home and discover a whole new world of good books. Read on to learn more about what the other year levels have been doing these few months.

1/2s:
This Term the 1/2s have been learning about non-fiction and fiction . They learnt that a Non Fiction text is a book that is real, for example books about sports, history, science etc. Fiction is like a narrative or a made up book with no real life elements. They have also been learning about parts of the library and how to locate books in the library. Some parts of the library are the Junior Fiction, Picture Fiction, Fiction and Non Fiction.

3/4s:
The 3/4s read the book ‘Truck Cat’ and as an activity coloured different truck cat puzzle pieces and put it together. The 3/4s also learnt how to find books in the library and where the different sections of the library are, such as the Junior Fiction, Picture fiction and the Non Fiction areas. They have also been learning about what Fiction and Non Fiction mean. Fiction is like a narrative which is made up and Non fiction is a book that is based on true facts for example books about Geography, History, Science, Sports etc.

5/6s:
At the end of Term 2 the 5/6s gave a presentation about an author of their choice. First they made posters to show the class. Some of the authors they chose were Andy Griffiths, Roald Dahl, Tui T. Sutherland, Anh Do & Enid Blyton.
Our presentations had to include information such as:
- Why we chose this author
- Three Questions we would ask this author
- About the Author
- Books they wrote
- What we like about their books
In Term 3 we have been brain-storming ideas of where we want to go in Australia and why?
eg. Where: Sydney Harbour Bridge
Why: Because of the fantastic view
State: NSW.
We have to do more research about the place we chose and in our library lessons this term will be making a postcard about our chosen location.
