At the end of Term 2, over 245 year 10 students completed a week of work experience placement in their local community. This is an extremely valuable program, as it allows students the opportunity to explore career options, gives them more self-confidence, develops employability skills, independence, and in some cases, may even lead to a part time job! Our students worked in many different industries including retail, healthcare, hospitality, construction and education.
We received positive feedback from employers who noted that our students were respectful and demonstrated initiative in the workplace, proving to be valuable additions to their teams and businesses. They appreciated the opportunity to teach them the intricacies of their roles over the week and were impressed by their work ethic.
Below are some responses from our Year 10 students when asked what they enjoyed most about their work experience:
“Getting to know the grade 5s and hanging out with them for a week. Especially when they had Art, and PE because I got to join them. Work experience was really fun especially because I went there in grade 5 and 6, so it was very nostalgic.”
- Kritha Patel, completed work experience at Brentwood Park Primary School.
“Being able to watch games on a league analyser”
- Hunter Stokie, completed work experience at Melbourne Storm.
“Talking with clients, making their coffees, seeing the outcomes of clients hair, and getting along with other staff. They were so kind and generous, the boss was the best!”
- Amelia Okirua, completed work experience at Standing Ovations hair salon.
“I was around so many different animals, including wildlife, being able to stand in surgery, learning how the staff communicate throughout the surgeries or consults, and handling puppies and kittens. Everyone was really friendly and the working environment was really good.”
- Claire Tran, completed work experience at Yarrum Veterinary Clinic
“Being around all the kids brought such a positive vibe to my day. It was incredible and everyone at Grayling Primary School are such kind and amazing people.”
- Maddison Cute, completed work experience at Grayling Primary School.
“I enjoyed everything and also being able to play on expensive pianos.”
- Tours Luo, completed work experience at Australian Music World.
“They made my tasks clear and similar to how life is in each department, and the experiences of the people there. Amazing. 10/10. Might go again next year!"
- Vedha Kannappan, completed work experience at Healthe Care Surgical, Mulgrave Private Hospital.
In the last few weeks, we are pleased to share that several of our Year 10 students have secured part-time jobs as a result of their placements! Additionally, a couple of students have also been offered apprenticeships that will begin after they finish school. Congratulations to all of them! 😊
Finally, we would like to thank all the businesses that provided work experience opportunities for our students. Your continued support plays a vital role in making this program worthwhile.
