Principal's Message

Dear Students, Parents and Guardians, Staff, and Community Members
A warm welcome back to you all for term three (even though it has been icy cold and wet!).
Our term is going fast! Cannot believe we are nearly halfway!
2025 NAPLAN Results
The NAPLAN results are in — and wow, what a moment to celebrate! For the third year running, our incredible students at both Year 7 and Year 9 have absolutely smashed it.
Across every single area of NAPLAN, our results have soared well above:
· the state average
· schools just like ours across Victoria
· and even schools within our local network.
A quick, two-page highlights summary is below — take a moment to check it out and see just how remarkable these results are
Let’s be clear: Staff at Kambrya College continue to work hard and strive be one of the highest performing schools in all of Southern Melbourne. Our staff are backed by data and driven by the daily hard work and dedication of our entire school community.
We, again all share in these results. It’s the result of students giving their all, parents and carers backing them every step of the way, and staff who pour their expertise, energy, and care into every lesson, every day. Together, we are continuing to align our community with our college values — and it shows.
To our students:
Your effort and perseverance absolutely do make a difference. Whether you’re celebrating a personal best or still striving for the next milestone, remember: learning is a lifelong journey. Keep showing up, keep giving your best, and keep aiming higher.
We are incredibly proud of each and every one of you. This is your achievement, your moment, and your proof that when we work together, we can achieve outstanding things.
Here’s to another year of growth, success, and unstoppable momentum in 2025!
Individual students results will be distributed next week.
Naidoc Week
On Tuesday 22nd July, Kambrya College celebrated NAIDOC week at our junior and senior school assemblies. During the assemblies, Jessie Barnett spoke about the importance of NAIDOC week to him and his family, and the students were educated about the significance of a smoking ceremony by Paige McMaster. The college welcomed Nathan Taylor from Tribal Pride, who performed a smoking ceremony which all the college Koorie students had the opportunity to participate in after lunch.
It was wonderful to celebrate these fantastic student achievements and come together to acknowledge the significance of NAIDOC week.
Production
Our annual musical production is about to hit the stage! This year it is High School Musical. Hundreds of students and staff (and some parents too) have been working tirelessly to pull it all together. We wish them all the very best over the coming weeks as they bring this very special event together.
2026 planning and school zone
We are well underway with our planning for 2026, which includes determining course pathways and managing the subject selection process for all students in Years 8–11. Thank you to everyone who met the deadlines for submitting subject selection forms — your prompt responses have provided us with the most accurate data possible to guide our planning.
While our students enjoy a wide variety of subject choices, elective subjects will only run where there are sufficient enrolments, as determined by the Principal. If an elective does not attract the required numbers, students will be placed into one of their nominated reserve preferences.
Looking ahead to 2026, we again anticipate welcoming more than 400 Year 7 students, all from within our designated school zone. While we would love to accommodate students from outside our zone, our new zoning requirements must be applied consistently. To clarify, we are unable to accept out-of-zone enrolments for any special programs, including the Select Entry Accelerated Learning Program (SEAL), Athlete Development Program (ADP), Musician Development Program (MDP), or Achieving Individual Milestones Program (AIM).
Year 7 Camp – Next Week!
Excitement is building as our Year 7 students get ready to head off to Forest Edge Camp next week! Set on the beautiful banks of the Latrobe River, this camp is all about adventure, teamwork, and personal growth. Students will have the chance to step outside their comfort zones, take on new challenges, and build strong friendships that will last well beyond camp.
From heart-pumping outdoor activities to fun and engaging team-building games, every moment is set to be packed with energy, laughter, and new experiences. We can’t wait to see the enthusiasm our campers bring and the memories they’ll create.
A huge thank you to our dedicated staff for all the time, planning, and care that’s gone into preparing for this incredible week. Your commitment makes opportunities like this possible.
And Year 8, your turn is coming soon!
Uniform
It’s wonderful to see so many students proudly wearing our uniform items, with the addition of the rugby jumper proving especially popular across all year levels. Thank you to the families who have collected their new uniform items that arrived at our uniform store. They still have some items that have not yet been collected. If you did order any items, please touch base with the store to see if your order has arrived
As a reminder, throughout the remainder of this term, classroom teachers and Engagement Leaders will be ramping up monitoring uniform compliance and following up with students and families where incorrect items are being worn.
Hoodies have never been a part of the Kambrya uniform. They pose a safety risk because of the potential for students to "hide" anonymously by pulling up their hoods. There are now plenty of warm uniform options for students, so there is never a reason for students to wear a hoodie. Uniform passes WILL NOT be issued for students who wear a hoodie to school. Hoodies will be confiscated and parents notified. The hoodie will be returned when the students collect it at the end of the day. If a student is caught twice then a parent will be required to collect it from the front office.
Our policy can be found on our website if any families are unsure.
CAR PARKING
I know that traffic is difficult in this area, however I implore all parents to please ensure that you do not contribute to safety issues. Please do not use the bus stops at the front of the school for drop off/pick up. Please do not double park. Please do not use the medical centre car park for your drop off/pick up point. Please attempt to use agreed drop off/pick up points with your child(ren) in some of the surrounding streets; picking up at the front of the school is not the only option! The council are enforcing parking laws and are issuing fines.
I hope all of the Kambrya community have a fantastic Term 3 and I look forward to joining you all at some of the amazing activities and events that are occurring this term.
Kind regards,
Martin McDonald
