YEAR 6 CONFIRMATION RETREAT DAY
In preparation for receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation, our Year 6 students had their Retreat Day on Monday to deepen their understanding of faith, service, and the power of the Holy Spirit.
At the Mary MacKillop spirituality Centre, students were inspired by the life and mission of Australia’s first saint. They explored the museum, reflected in the peaceful garden, and stood in the very room where Mary lived and worked. A highlight for many was learning how Mary MacKillop stood up for those in need and committed her life to education and faith. As one student said, “Mary MacKillop showed courage and trust in God, even when things were tough — just like we’re asked to do as we prepare for Confirmation.”
The visit to St Patrick’s Cathedral was equally powerful. Students were struck by the beauty and sacredness of the space where they will soon receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit. They had the chance to walk through the Cathedral, pray quietly, and learn more about the meaning of Confirmation and the symbolism of the sacrament. One student shared, “Being in the Cathedral helped me feel calm and connected — I’m ready to take this next step in my faith.”
In both settings, our Year 6 students had the chance to reflect, pray, and grow in their understanding of what it means to live as young people of faith. We are so proud of their reverence and readiness as they prepare to be confirmed as full members of the Church community.
We look forward to celebrating this important milestone with them and their families in the coming weeks.
CONFIRMATION COMMITMENT MASS
This Saturday (2nd Aug) at the 6.00 pm Mass, the students who are making their Confirmation are invited to commit themselves to prepare faithfully for this great Sacrament. If they are unable to attend on this evening, they can attend a Confirmation Commitment Mass on Sunday, August 3rd at the 9:00am Mass at St John Vianney’s in Parkdale.
GRANDPARENT'S DAY
On Tuesday, we welcomed grandparents and special friends into our school to celebrate Grandparents' Day. Visitors were welcomed into classrooms, enjoy a shared morning tea in the hall, and were treated to a delightful performance by our school choir. The day concluded with a beautiful celebration of the Eucharist at our midday Mass.
Always held early in Term 3, Grandparent’s Day coincides with the feasts of St Joachim and St Anne on the 26th of July. They hold a special place in our faith tradition as the parents of Mary and the grandparents of Jesus. Their significant role in salvation history has led to them being honoured as the patron saints of grandparents.
As we honour Saints Joachim and Anne, we are reminded of the enduring love, faith, and strength of grandparents. Their example inspires us to live lives of faith, love, and gratitude.
It was a truly special occasion that reflected the importance of family, faith, and the gift of grandparents in our lives.
