Schools Tree Day – Growing a Greener Future

Tomorrow, our Year 5 and 6 Sustainability Leaders will join forces with Danny and Mrs Diakrousis to mark Schools Tree Day by planting a variety of native species around our school grounds. This hands-on initiative reflects our commitment to sustainability, environmental stewardship, and deepening our connection to Country—values we strive to instil in all our students.

Thanks to the generous support of the City of Kingston, our students will be planting a beautiful range of indigenous plants, including Chocolate Lily, Blue Stars, Coast Blown Grass, Wiry Buttons, Cushion Bush, Common Apple Berry, Twiggy Daisy-Bush, Snowy Daisy-Bush, Hop Goodenia, and Sweet Wattle. Each species plays an important role in supporting local biodiversity and creating habitats for native wildlife.

National Tree Day, established in 1996, is now Australia’s largest community tree planting and nature care event. Each year, over 3,000 schools and early learning centres take part in meaningful activities like planting native species, creating habitats, and connecting with the natural world.

This is a wonderful opportunity for students to get outdoors, connect with nature, and quite literally dig into something meaningful—all while having fun and helping shape a greener future for generations to come.

Battery Recycling Program

Did you know that batteries contain harmful chemicals that can damage the environment if not disposed of properly? At St. Patrick’s, we are committed to sustainability and have a battery recycling program to help reduce waste and protect our planet.

We encourage all families to bring in used batteries and drop them off in our designated recycling bin in the front office. Please remember: Button batteries are extremely dangerous for children—keep them out of reach and ensure they are safely stored before recycling.

Let’s work together to create a cleaner, safer future!
