Principal's Message

At Wembley Primary School, we acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which our school sits, the Woi-wurrung and Boonwurrung people of the South-Eastern Kulin Nation.

We celebrate and respect the oldest continuing culture and recognise the importance of education in truth telling, equity and justice.

We pay our respects to Elders past and present and recognise and value the learning that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, colleagues and community bring into our schools.

Term 3: Week 1-2 Update

Welcome back to Term 3!  We're pleased to have everyone back and can't wait for a term filled with learning and growth. It's a short term, but 'jam-packed' - as our opening weeks have already proved!

Already this term, we have held a successful 3-6 Athletics Day and had students participate in State Cross Country; we've celebrated our Parent Volunteers at a morning tea today and rehearsals for the Year 5/6 Musical are well underway!

We'd like to acknowledge the incredible efforts that went towards a wonderful Athletics Day - from teachers, parent helpers and students alike. Whilst it was cold, the wet weather held off and we were able to run through all events. Laura Keays, the PE teacher largely responsible for the organisation of the day, has written a full reflection, detailed below.

Over the break, we took some time to further widen the options available to our students at playtimes - we know that unstructured play, in the school yard, is not enjoyable for all children. Thanks to Simon Zammit, and a substantial number of staff volunteers, the school has put together a wide range of clubs for our students to participate in during lunch and recess times.

Clubs are organised so that students have access to a range of options on odd and even weeks, and so that a variety of interests are accommodated across the fortnight. Students have access to different clubs, depending on their age and year level, and these allocations will be re-adjusted each term. For example, if your child is in Year 3/4 then this term they have access to a drawing club, however, in Term 4 this drawing club may be moved to a different year level.

Today, we held a Morning Tea, in order to thank the large number of parent volunteers we have had within the school throughout Semester 1. We simply could not achieve what we do at the school without them - whether their help has been a 'one off' presence at an excursion or event, or a more continual effort as part of a regular group that help in various ways, such as: lost property, library set-up and maintenance, maths resource organisation, breakfast club etc etc. Our School Captains took a few moments to share their reflections and words of gratitude - led by Adriana Jankulovski, our Learning Specialist.

Last week, our Year 3 and Year 5 students received their NAPLAN results; leaders will soon be undertaking an analysis of our school performance, and in particular considering our outcomes against our network schools.

Finally, this fortnight (Week 2 and 3) our teachers are participating in their Collaborative Team Professional Practise Days, where they are focused on responding to student learning data, in relation to the switch to Curriculum 2.0. Teachers are identifying areas of the curriculum where students may need further exposure and time, in order to master concepts that are newly aligned to their year level - as communicated at the end of Term 2, when End of Semester Reports were published. Following these days, teaching teams will publish their Semester Curriculum Overviews and pacing guid

Year 3-6 Athletics

Grade 3–6 Athletics Carnival – A Day of Team Spirit and Community!

What an incredible day we had for our Grade 3–6 Athletics Carnival on Wednesday, 23rd July! After a last-minute reschedule in Term 2 due to heavy rain, we were fortunate to enjoy a mostly dry—but very chilly—day. Students gave their best across a wide range of events: Long Jump, 200 m, 100 m, High Jump, Shot Put, Discus, Triple Jump, and Hurdles.

This was truly a team effort. A heartfelt thank you to the many parents who volunteered their time to run events, supervise groups, and cheer from the sidelines. Your presence not only ensured the day ran smoothly but also fostered a supportive atmosphere

We also extend our gratitude to the eight students from Williamstown High School who stepped up as young mentors. Their guidance and encouragement added an extra layer of leadership and support for our primary athletes.

A key detail: the 8‑, 9‑ and 10‑year‑old age groups were assessed collectively as one group. Please remember that while some children may have received ribbons on the day, only the top two students per gender in each assessed age group will progress to District Athletics. We appreciate this may be disappointing for some—but we encourage parents to help their children focus on effort, improvement, and personal performance, rather than the outcome alone.

Results are currently being finalised and will be announced early next week. Students that qualified were able to compete in a maximum of two events, plus the 100 metre relay.

Congratulations to all students for their outstanding behaviour and enthusiastic participation. Numerous comments were made about how well everyone conducted themselves—truly making Wembley Primary shine. Thank you again to everyone who contributed to making the day such a wonderful success.
