Mr Ray Hickey
The Catholic Church honours Australia’s first saint, Mary MacKillop, on the 8th August.
Mary was a remarkable woman who was born in Melbourne in 1842 and died in Sydney in 1909.
Mary MacKillop was a woman of deep faith and compassion who co-founded the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart. Mary was a passionate educator and social reformer, dedicating her life to serving others, especially the poor and marginalized people in society.
Mary was well known for her quotes and sayings. One of Mary’s famous quotes was, “Never see a need without doing something about it.”

St Mary of the Cross MacKillop ….. pray for us
August is dedicated to 'mutual coexistence' or 'accepting everyone'.
Pope Leo XIV has asked the world to pray for mutual coexistence during the month of August.
There is an old saying, “If everyone was the same then the world would be a very boring place.”
We need to accept and value our similarities and differences.
This needs to be encouraged by our faith, community and world leaders.
Often the change needs to begin with us, the everyday people.
Please try to find some quiet time in your busy day to pray Pope Leo's Prayer Intention for the month of August.
Thank you.
For mutual coexistence
Let us pray that societies where coexistence seems more difficult might not succumb to the temptation of confrontation for ethnic, political, religious, or ideological reasons.
Amen
