School staff have the right to be safe at work
As part of the Department of Education commitment to protect the safety and wellbeing of school staff, you will see resources displayed in around the school to promote respectful behaviours from parents, carers and other adults in our school.
While the majority of parents/carers, community members and visitors to schools positively engage with their child’s education and the school community, in some cases, parents/carers engage in behaviour towards school staff that is disrespectful, unsafe or otherwise unacceptable.
School staff have the right to be safe at work. The department resources are to remind adults in the school community of the standards of behaviour expected by Victorian government schools, and equip school staff with tools for preventing and managing unacceptable behaviour when it occurs.
The new suite of posters launched highlights common unacceptable behaviours towards staff by adults in the community . This includes unreasonable demands, verbal aggression, threats, offensive jokes and inappropriate social media use that negatively impacts school staff wellbeing and at times the wider-school community.
