Character Strengths at BNPS
The last two weeks we have continued learning about the universal character strengths we all share. Last week we learnt about the strength of creativity, thinking of new ways of doing things. This week we are focussing on the love of learning as a strength. Each week students learn about a particular strength, discuss examples of how we demonstrate these strengths in our daily lives, and practice spotting themselves and others using the strengths. This is a great conversation to lead with your children, exploring how particular strengths are present in your family. Check out the VIA character strengths website, and even take the survey to find out your signature strengths.
This daily practice is a key element of the Visible Wellbeing framework we are implementing at BNPS. We know that embedding these evidenced based positive psychology practices will improve all student's wellbeing, happiness and mental health.
Ride and Stride - Open Streets coming in Term 3
We are pleased to have our Open Streets program up and running ready for a day of riding, scooting, skating and walking to school in early Term 3. On Friday July 17 we will be closing Westbourne street to traffic from 8:30 until 9am, and again from 3:30 until 4pm. There will be games, activities, music and riding obstacle courses, all aimed to encourage our students to travel to school in healthy and sustainable ways. A big thank you to all the community volunteers who have participated in training to ensure this event runs smoothly and safely. See you with your bike on July 17!
Centenary Event - Save the Date
We are very busy preparing for the school's centenary celebration later this year. A team of community volunteers have been working on a special project - a film about the last 100 years at BNPS. We have been speaking with former students, digging through our archives and finding the stories that make up the last 100 years of education at our school. We will be filming on-site in early Term 3, including interviewing current and former students.
It is important to acknowledge the significant work the team are doing in preparing for this event. I feel very grateful to be working alongside a school community so prepared to give their time and talent. We will need some additional help on filming days, if you are interested in getting involved please reach out to the office.
On Friday October 23 we will come together to celebrate, with a plan to watch the film as a community on our school oval in the evening. Make sure you save the date so you can join us.
There will be more details about filming and the centenary event coming soon, keep an eye out!
School Holidays
Finally, I would like to thank all of our community for a productive and happy school Term. It is a joy to work with such dedicated staff, engaged community and focussed young learners. I hope everyone has a relaxing holiday break, ready for another great school Term coming up. A reminder that next Friday we have an early dismissal at 2:30pm.
