Industry Tours Provide Valuable Career Insights for Year 11 Students
On Thursday, 26 June, Trade staff will take a group of Year 11 students on a series of industry and training provider tours to expose them to real-world workplace practices and future career opportunities in the engineering, construction, and trades sectors.
One group of students will visit Hoffman Engineering and the Mader Maintenance Centre, where they will gain insights into daily operations, workplace expectations, and the diverse range of career pathways available in these industries. The students will also be able to observe industry-standard equipment and procedures while gaining a better understanding of the skills and attitudes employers value in the workplace.
The second group led by Mr Pfitzner and Mr Prangnell will visit the Construction Training Fund Futures Centre and North Metropolitan TAFE Balga Campus. These visits provide students with valuable information about vocational training pathways, apprenticeships and further education opportunities available after completing their studies at the College. Students will be able to explore modern training facilities and learn more about the qualifications and experiences required to enter a range of trade occupations.
The purpose of these tours is to provide students with meaningful exposure to industry and training environments, helping them make informed decisions about their future education and employment pathways. By seeing workplaces and training centres firsthand, students can gain a clearer understanding of how their studies at the College can lead to rewarding careers.
I would like to thank Mr Trevenen and Mr Evans for supporting and guiding students throughout the industry visits. Appreciation is also extended to Mr Pfitzner and Mr Prangnell for facilitating the tours of the Construction Training Fund Futures Centre, Balga TAFE, and helping to provide students with a comprehensive view of both industry and training pathways. Their contributions will make the day an invaluable learning experience for all involved.
Country Week
Senior School Country Week will once again provide students with an excellent opportunity to represent the College, develop their skills, and demonstrate teamwork, sportsmanship and resilience while competing against schools from across Western Australia.
The Trades Department is proud to play an active role in supporting students throughout the week, with several staff members volunteering their time to coach and mentor College teams.
Mr Pfitzner is taking on the role of Hockey Coach, working closely with students to develop their skills, game awareness and teamwork for the competition. His commitment and encouragement have helped create a positive and supportive environment for players both on and off the field.
Mr Evans is coaching the Touch Rugby team, and will be providing students with guidance, motivation and tactical support during the week's matches. His enthusiasm and dedication will contribute to a rewarding experience for the students involved.
Mr Trevenen and I will share the coaching responsibilities for the AFL team, supporting players through training sessions and the match-day competitions. Focusing on teamwork, discipline, and player development that will help students perform at their best while representing the College with pride.
Country Week is about much more than sporting results. It provides students with opportunities to build lasting friendships, develop leadership skills and learn the importance of commitment, teamwork and perseverance. The experience also allows students to represent the College positively while creating memories that will remain with them long after their school years.
Good luck to all involved in Country Week!
Mr Elliott
