A Day in Upper Primary
Market Day, Flourish Day and Boy Overboard
On Friday 19 June, the Grade 5 and 6 students enjoyed participating in a Market Day as part of their Classroom Economy program.
Working in pairs, students planned and promoted their business stalls, organised supplies, and sold products and services using ‘Benson Bucks’. The market featured a variety of offerings, including homemade treats, games, and raffles, many of which were created using items from home.

The day was a wonderful opportunity for students to apply their learning in a practical setting while developing teamwork, creativity, and entrepreneurial skills. Most importantly, they had a fantastic time learning through hands-on experience.
What a wonderful Flourish Day we had with our Grade 5 and 6 students! Our heart for this special day was for students to not only recognise their growth, but to do so through a biblical worldview, understanding that they are uniquely created, deeply valued, and called with purpose.
Throughout the day, students engaged in fun and meaningful learning around responsible digital citizenship, exploring how to make wise and respectful choices online. We also spent time in hands-on wellbeing activities, helping students build practical strategies to care for their mental and emotional health.

A highlight of the day was our separate girls’ and boys’ sessions, where students were encouraged to reflect on the wonder and uniqueness of how God has created them and the identity and calling He has placed on their lives.
Of course, no Flourish Day would be complete without a shared sausage sizzle lunch and plenty of time to connect and enjoy being together as a community. Each student also received a special goody bag to take home as a reminder of the day.
We are so grateful for the opportunity to speak life, truth, and encouragement into our students, and to partner with families in helping them flourish in every sense of the word.
Our Grade 6 students recently enjoyed a special guest visit! As part of our English unit this term, we are reading Boy Overboard, a novel that follows the journey of a young boy and his family as they flee Afghanistan in search of safety and a better future.
To help bring the novel to life, we welcomed Ms Khaliqy from the Bakhtar Community Organisation. She shared her powerful journey from Afghanistan to Australia and gave students a valuable insight into life in Afghanistan.

Through both Boy Overboard and Ms Khaliqy’s presentation, our students are learning about important global issues, including the plight of refugees and the importance of education for girls. Her story helped us develop a deeper understanding of the themes explored in the novel and reminded us how blessed we are to live in a safe and welcoming country like Australia.
