Formula 1

With all the excitement of the world Formula 1 Championship visiting Melbourne, our VCE Vocational Major students took the opportunity to visit and explore the world of work generated by the F1’s presence in Melbourne.

Students explored the myriad of job opportunities and volunteer workers, safety strategies and crowd control, then created a presentation that they will deliver to classmates to further develop their public speaking skills.

As always, the students represented Scoresby Secondary College well and were invited to sit in some aspirational vehicles.

Murrung Strategy

The Department Education (DE)  is working to ensure that our First Nations history is acknowledged and visible within school environments and student learning programs.

Scoresby Secondary College received a manna gum tree to plant in recognition of our Indigenous culture, and Savanna Ferguson, Loren Watson and Krista Bartholomew ensured that it was planted in a spot where it will flourish and be visible to all.

Leaves from this gum will be used during smoking ceremonies within the Yarning Circle that was created by the 2023, Vocational Major students.

School Tours

Mrs Major leads our regular school tours on a Friday morning at 9am. This year there has been a significant increase in prospective families wanting to attend these tours to such an extent that  two groups operating. I have had the privilege of leading the additional school tour.

As I wind my way through the various locations of the school, I am always confident in what awaits around the corner; engaged learning! This has always been the case. Lessons are always well structured and engaging reinforcing why our NAPLAN results are amongst the best in the state; results based on growth rather than just academic achievement.

Many of these prospective families were unaware of Scoresby Secondary College, or where we are located. It is evident from their comments and questions that they are impressed with the high calibre teachers that we have, and the quality of education being delivered.  Feedback from the prospective families is always positive, with many wanting to sign up immediately, unfortunately not an option in the state system.

I do believe it is a privilege to lead these tours and highlight our college on behalf of all staff, and I thank Mrs Major for the opportunity. It is a privilege because I witness, first hand, the learning that is occurring in every classroom. This reinforces why I became a teacher and why I tell anyone that will listen, that educationally, we are Knox’s best kept secret!

It would be remiss of me if I did not acknowledge the high calibre work of our very professional educational support staff. From first contact at our front office through to our counsellors, careers, integration specialists and a host of other support staff, we are a school community delivering quality educational outcomes.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity of wishing everyone a safe and restful holiday period and look forward to hearing of many adventures that were had over the break next term.
