What's happening in Chinese?
This year, the students studying Chinese at Scoresby Secondary College have been working on broadening their knowledge of China and developing their communication skills.
In Year 7, our students have delved into the traditions surrounding major celebrations such as the Spring Festival and Lantern Festival.
Additionally, students have honed their artistic skills through paper cutting activities, creating intricate designs featuring the character 'chun' (春), which means "spring."
Alongside cultural exploration, students have been mastering the fundamentals of the Chinese language, including character strokes, Chinese radicals, basic greetings, and tones.
For Year 8, our students have been expanding their linguistic horizons by delving into grammar concepts related to sports. Through engaging activities and role-playing exercises, they've been practicing spoken Chinese and refining their sentence structures.
To supplement their learning, students have been utilizing a variety of online resources such as Education Perfect, Duolingo, and Blooket to reinforce their language skills in interactive and dynamic ways.
In Year 9, our students have been further enhancing their language proficiency by acquiring vocabulary related to daily activities and routines. Additionally, they've been exploring the rich diversity of Chinese music, engaging in discussions about different genres and styles. Furthermore, students have been discussing their hobbies and interests using newly acquired grammar forms, allowing them to express themselves more fluently and confidently in Chinese.
Overall, our Year 7-9 students have been making impressive strides in their Chinese language journey, demonstrating a keen enthusiasm for learning and a deep appreciation for Chinese culture. We look forward to seeing their continued growth and success in the future!
