Health and Physical Education News

Our Health and Physical Education (HPE) department continues to be rejuvenated with the arrival of Mr Christian Smith to our team.

Mr Smith is an accomplished cricket player who is passionate about developing skills in a variety of activities.

With the outstanding appointment of Ms Shianne Marsal to our team in the second half of last year we have the perfect combination of enthusiasm and experience to help guide our students through their HPE experiences.

It has been a jam-packed term in Health and Physical Education for our Junior School students in Term 1.

The focus of the term has been:

Year 7

Continuing to develop Fundamental Movement Skills in Physical Education (PE) including dribbling, dodging, catching, throwing, running, jumping, striking, kicking.

This was enhanced through the involvement in activities that allowed them to identify these skills and how they are executed in game scenarios, they then went through a trail of tests that looked at each skill individually assessing each other on their ability to complete each skill correctly.

In Health our Year 7 students focused on transitions before moving forward onto mental, social, and emotional development.

Year 8

PE students commenced a Sports Education in Physical Education Program (SEPEP) Unit.

This program is a student lead and driven instructional model where students actively rotate through roles as coaches, scorers, administrators, referees, fitness trainers and facility managers.

Health is a semester-based subject that will commence in Term 3.

Year 9

PE students undertook peer assessment. This involves assessing each other at both the commencement and conclusion of a PE unit of work. 9A developed their skills in netball before completing their final peer assessment, while 9B undertook skill development in Hockey. In

Health students have been looking at Nutrition and different online resources that allow them to monitor and make more informed decisions regarding nutrition.
