In the last edition we highlighted that Year 8 students had the opportunity to explore the intersection of technology and creativity by designing and building their own musical instruments using Makey-Makey circuits and Scratch coding at KIOSC.
All students were asked to submit their creations as part of a competition. I am thrilled to announce that Lily James won the competition for Scoresby.
Well done, Lily!
This term, it has been fantastic to see our students being able to complete lots of practical work and develop all the hands-on and investigation skills required of young budding scientists.
The Year 7 students started their discovery of the properties of matter. In Year 8 students wrapped-up their exploration of specialized cells with some impressive posters. The year 9’s have investigated different types of chemical reactions.
Year 12 Biology students have been learning genetic engineering technology and got the opportunity to go to KIOSC for hands-on experience of this technology.
They were able to apply their knowledge of the structure and function of the DNA molecule to examine how molecular tools and techniques can be used to manipulate the molecule for a particular purpose.
In this instance, the aim was to insert a gene to produce insulin into bacteria to harvest the hormone. If they did this successfully, the bacteria would glow under UV light.
