PERFORMING ARTS

It has been another exceptional fortnight of performances, with students really stepping into the limelight over the last few weeks.

Congratulations to both Wind Symphony (Tuesday 3 September) and Ovenden Band (Thursday 5 September) who performed brilliantly at the VSMF, both receiving a Bronze placement. Students had the opportunity to receive great feedback from the guest adjudicators, and to hear other students of a similar standard in their sections. Thank you to the teachers who attended, Colleen Wurfel and Blanka West; and to the teachers who organised these opportunities, Tracy Videon and Karen Nansen.

Congratulations to the Saxophone Quartet (JJ Braithwaite (Year 11), Michael Liu (Year 11), Antonina Mikhaylova (Year 12) and Amelie Villella (Year 11) who performed at the VCE Leadership Awards at Treasury Place on Friday 13 September. Their high level of performance was greatly appreciated by those organising the event. Thank you to Martin West for his organization of this excursion and development of these students.

CULTURAL DIVERSITY WEEK

Congratulations to all the students who performed at the various concerts for Cultural Diversity Week. Thank you to those students who took part in the World Songs Concert on Monday at East Campus and Tuesday at the McKinnon Road Campus, and to the students who played as part of the World Music Ensemble on Tuesday at East Campus.

STUDENT LEARNS TO CONDUCT THE YEAR 7 BAND

Zachary O'Regan (Year 7) stepped up alongside Mr Martin West to lead the Year 7 band, taking on the role of conductor for part of a performance.

Though his time on the podium was brief, it gave him a taste of musical leadership!

SOUNDS ON THE GROUNDS

Congratulations to the fantastic students in the East Campus Music Club, who performed at the Sounds on the Grounds gig on Friday 13 September. It was great to see so many talented Years 8 and 9 students performing a fantastic set through lunchtime. The music was of a high standard and highly energetic, demonstrating the work that they have undertaken together over the last few terms under the guidance of Ben Browne. Thank you to the enthusiastic audience, and to the MAV team who helped set up the event.

GIGS ON THE GREEN

On Wednesday 4 September & Friday 6 September VCE Music Performance students performed at the Gigs On the Green in the Theatre. There were a variety of pieces presented in different settings, including both solo and group. Students continue to produce high quality performances as they approach their end of semester recitals.

These lunchtime performances are a great opportunity for students to present works in front of a live audience and build on their performance skills.

Congratulations to all the performers and everyone who attended.

On Wednesday 11 September our talented staff, across different faculties, performed on the A01 stage, as part of our Gigs On the Green. The performers included: Leah Humphrey - Vocals, Tambourine; Cedric Chamontin - Guitar, Vocals; Daniel Farthing - Bass, Vocals; Paschal Lee - Drums. The performance was well supported by students and teachers.

Students are encouraged to come forward and present a performance as part of the Gigs On the Green. Students may contact any music teacher at either of the campuses (McKinnon Road or East campus) if they are interested in taking part in this excellent opportunity.

VCE MUSIC NIGHT

Congratulations to all the VCE Music Performance students - Units 2 & 4, for performing at the VCE Music Night on Tuesday 10 September.

The performance standard was at the highest that we've seen. Students were outstanding in taking the stage and presenting a piece from their recital programs. The performances were engaging and a wide range of styles and genres were presented on the night. Students also performed in a variety of settings - both solo and group. The event was well attended by staff, friends and family.
