HEALTH & PE DAY
On Wednesday 4 September the school celebrated Health & PE day. It was a fabulous day where staff and students were invited to wear their PE uniform and get involved with the many fun activities that were on offer to promote students being active.
At McKinnon Rd we started the celebrations at recess with a Just Dance Off in the hall. We had students from Years 7, 10, 11 & 12 joining in with the fun and following along with the moves. Mr Kan was there to hand out prizes to the best dancers and the loudest singers.
At lunchtime the East Campus enjoyed some music from East Chella and the opportunity to play AFL 9s at Marlborough Reserve and Volleyball in the gym. These were hugely popular activities with lots of Years 8s & 9s coming along to play some Sport.
Back at McKinnon Rd the teachers took on the Year 12s at Netball. The gym was packed with spectators whilst teachers & Year 12s were eager to take the court. The atmosphere was electric as the teachers went out to a three goal lead.
The students fought back and by half time they had closed the gap to just one goal. As the game headed into the final quarter the students were in the lead, but the teachers did not give up, with a final push the teachers had a chance to level the scores in the last 10 seconds but unfortunately couldn’t get the shot in.
For the 1st time in recent history the Year 12s defeated the teachers, they should be very proud of this achievement!
Thank You to the PE team for organising so many activities for our school community to enjoy during Health & PE day and thank you to everyone who wore their PE uniform and joined in!
Remember it is important for both your physical and mental health to be physically active. Keep an eye on the compass newsfeed for the next round of lunchtime activities taking place in term 4.

KINGSTON DIVISION ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS
On Thursday 12 September, 100 McKinnon students attended Duncan McKinnon Reserve to compete at the Kingston Division Athletics Championships and represent the school.
The sun was shining as were our athletes on the track and field, with our students standing at the top of the dais receiving 1st place medals 30 times, 2nd placed ribbons 33 times and 3rd place ribbons 35 times!
This has culminated in 29 athletes qualifying for the SMR Championships in 32 individual events and 3 relay teams. This phenomenal success also resulted in McKinnon winning the overall points aggregates for the Junior Boys, Intermediate Girls & Boys and the Senior Girls. The team was also awarded the overall team aggregate pennant. A sensational effort from all members of the team.
There were seven records broken on the day by our students. Congratulations to Allegra Orso (Year 11) who broke two records, Luka Sideridis (Year 10) who broke two records, Archie Sideridis (Year 7), James Spencer (Year 12) and the Senior girls 4x100m team consisting of Hannah Foran, Gisele Hennequin, Ori Landau and Anita Krapivsky (Year 12) who also broke records.
In addition to this I am pleased to announce that some of our students also won age group champion trophies.
These students were:
15 Girls: Mia Lacey (Year 9)
16 Girls: Christina Tan (Year 11)
We wish our SMR Athletics Squad all the best for the next round of competition at Casey Fields on Thursday 10 October.

INTERMEDIATE GIRLS STATE SOCCER FINALS
On Tuesday 10 September the Intermediate Girls Soccer team set off to Darebin International Sport Centre to compete for the state title, representing the Southern Metropolitan Region.
Their first game was against Castlemaine SC, they fought hard and didn’t stop until the end, unfortunately losing 0-2. Up next was Mount Clear, the girls knew they had to win and by four goals. They persevered and maintained their skill for the entire game and never gave up winning with a final score of 7-0. Their last match was against Thornbury, which they knew would be a challenging game, however they persevered and maintained their skill for the entire game with a final score of 1-1.
Unfortunately, this meant that the girls didn’t progress to the final, however, they proved themselves through all of their games and showed their determination and dedication by trying their best and putting in all of their effort until the end. Well done to all the girls for your outstanding effort and Mrs Karro for coaching the team.

Congratulations to all the McKinnon Year 7 Hockey Girls for winning their Kingston Division tournament! Everyone played very well and I'm happy to say that they pulled off a 1-0 win even though it was a tough game.
A special shout out to Ella Graham (Year 7) for scoring their epic goal, and now the girls are going onto Regional Finals, good luck!
