DR LONG’S ANCIENT EGYPT ARCHAEOLOGY PRESENTATION

On the second of September during period 2 all the classes doing History this semester were invited to the theatre for a speech prepared by one of our Assistant Principals, Dr Long.

Dr Long is a former Archaeologist who gave us all a real insight to what he and his crew found when they were in Egypt! Currently in History we are learning about Ancient Egypt and the River Nile. Having someone who has first-hand experience and has traveled to Egypt really helped us to gain a better understanding of our topic of ancient Egypt.

During his presentation we learnt about the different kings of Egypt and what they did to help and make Egypt better. One of the most famous kings was called Tutankhamun. We learned that one of the major reasons he is famous is because no one ever stole anything from his tomb until it was discovered in 1922.

Tutankhamun’s father, Akhenaten, was one of the wealthiest kings ever to live and made major changes to religion in ancient Egypt, which were later reversed.

We are so happy that we got this opportunity, and it taught us lots which we can go back and implement into our learning! We thank Dr Long for taking some time to educate us all about his discoveries and are so glad that we got to do this.

YEAR 11 ACCOUNTING EXCURSION TO PWC AND MELBOURNE CITY

On Friday 30 August, our Year 11 students visited PricewaterhouseCoopers, an accounting firm located in Melbourne's city centre. They enjoyed a presentation from the firm's employees, a tour of the office, a panel discussion with several team members, and a catered meal.

Students learned about various pathways into PwC, including internships and skilled apprenticeship programs. They also gained valuable insights into life at the firm by

networking with current employees. Overall, the experience provided a great opportunity for students to start considering their future career options and explore the opportunities available to them.

After our morning at PwC, students had the opportunity to participate in an engaging accounting scavenger hunt, which led them to key financial landmarks around Melbourne.

Here are some reflections from our students about their experience:

On Friday 30 August, all three accounting classes had the opportunity to visit PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), one of the best accounting firms out there. We had the chance to communicate with advanced accountants and learn about their role in the economy, have a tour around the firm, and hear their advice to the new up and coming generation of accountants.

After the informative session at PwC, we were provided with a scavenger hunt around the city which was the highlight of the day. Overall, the excursion was an amazing experience which gave an insight on how Accounting firms work and all of the different pathways there are into the commerce world.

Dimitri Liarakos, Year 11

It was fantastic, I had a fabulous experience knowing about how work life in PwC will be like and also got a chance to learn some helpful programmes. This excursion gave me an idea of my future study and career pathway, I really enjoyed it!

Ann Jia, Year 11

It was amazing last Friday; I had a good experience in PwC. It gave me an idea of a way to intern at a university, and an avenue to work. The work atmosphere was great too, especially the free coffee ha-ha. Through the personal experiences of a few staff members, I was very excited to learn about opportunities to work overseas, that means you must be fantastic at your job, and it would give a diverse work experience. I feel the experience emphasised the importance and practicality of studying accounting.
