STEM
Learning for this Term
The Grade One students have been focusing on pollination. This has seen them create a pollinator as well as learn about the importance of bees. This week students have designed a bee and a hive.
Earth Hour
Earth Hour aims to inspire individuals, communities, and organizations worldwide to take meaningful action to protect the environment and create a sustainable future for all. The event is held annually, encouraging individuals, communities, and businesses to turn off non-essential electric lights, for one hour from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m.
This year Earth Hour will be held on Saturday March 23rd. At Buninyong Primary School we will promote Earth Hour on Friday the 22nd of March.
During the day we will allocate a time where we will limit the amount of electricity we are using around the school. We will also complete some activities during the day as well.
Clean Up Australia Day
Last Friday we participated in Clean Up Australia Day. This saw some students cleaning up rubbish in the school yard at lunch time. Well done to all those students who assisted in cleaning up the playground.
Nude Food Friday
On Friday Miss Middlin will be running a Nude Food competition. This competition is aiming to promote sustainability across the school. Nude Food is simply food that is not wrapped in foil, plastic or commercial packaging.
On Friday selected students will be allocated a time to survey classes to see how many have brought Nude Food to school.
The class with the most students with the most Nude Food will receive the Nude Food Medal for the week. Last week’s winners were 5/6GR!
Every fortnight we will be having a STEM question for students to answer. The questions will be posted in the school's newsletter.
These questions will not be compulsory, but will be a bit of fun and a challenge for students. Students can write their answer on a piece of paper and place it in the appropriate box inside the STEM room. At the end of the week Miss Middlin will do a lucky dip and select one student from Prep- 2 will receive a small science related prize.
Well done to Oscar and Astra for winning this week’s STEM question of the week. This week’s question is found below.
