Happy Heavenly birthday to The Venerable John Ramsden Wollaston.
John Ramsden Wollaston was born on 28 March 1791 and enjoyed the greater part of his life as a village Priest in England.
In 1841 at the age of 50, he left the known comforts of parish life to begin a ministry in the colony of Western Australia. He arrived in the settlement of Australind that year as a free settler.
His energy and efficiency became widely known and he was asked to Minister to the people in Albany. In 1848, he was appointed the first Archdeacon of Western Australia. He rode on horseback all over the southwest, caring for the church.
He died due to exhaustion, after his second main Archidiaconal Tour in 1856.
In 1984, he was proclaimed as a local saint and hero of the Anglican Church.
This is an abstract taken from the Wollaston Journals in the Archives office.
This is only a small account of the namesake of our School. There is much more history about John Wollaston, including photos of him and his family that can be found in the Archives office.
From Term 2, the Archives will be open every Tuesday 8:00am - 4:00pm for everyone to come and visit and walk down the history of the School in photos. We are now 35 years old.
I look forward to seeing families visit soon.
