Grade 2 Community News
Hello to all our Grade 2 families,
This has been a colourful fortnight in Grade 2! We have been working on our narrative writing. Students in Grade two have been constructing their own stories. They have been drafting their own version of a fairy tale, using their creative thinking to develop an original piece of writing. We have been exploring fairy tales and learning about the elements of a story with the help of our Story Champs framework. Ask me about “The Fisherman and his Wife” and what I would wish for!
In maths, we are learning how to write three digit numbers and using word form to help us represent numbers in different ways. I can write 7 as a numeral and seven in word form. We have been thinking about multiple ways to represent the same number. Some ways we have discovered to express a number is by showing it as a numeral, in word form, with MAB blocks, with counters, with popsicle sticks in singles or bundles of 10, on a number line, with a ten frame, and many, many more! Students in Grade 2 can show you their own unique way of representing and renaming numbers.
In history we have been investigating the concept of past, present and future. We have been learning about ancient Indian, thinking about our current classroom routines, and thinking about upcoming adventures that haven’t yet taken place. There is so much to look forward to this year in grade 2. Currently, we are comparing the similarities and differences of life in the past and life in the present. We are imagining what the future holds, what will be the same and what will change. We know that by upholding our Tarneit Rise school values the world we create will be an amazing place!
