Physical Education News

Dear Students, Families, and Parents

We have all been working very hard across the school to develop our skills across many different sports. The students have been showing us how much growth they have had over the Term as we start to wrap up our content areas. With the holidays approaching it is still really important to keep practicing fundamental motor skills such as catching over-arm throwing and running. Trips to the park or the oval are a great way to explore and stay active. Question: How long can they run for before they stop? 1 minute? 2 minutes? Or can they do more?

Upcoming Sports:

District Cross Country 8th May – Teams announced week 9

Grade 6 Athletics Term 2 Week 1 Thursday

Grade 4 Athletics Term 2 Week 2 Tuesday

Grade 5 Athletics Term 2 Week 3 Thursday

Prep:

The Preps are progressing well with their Fundamental Motor Skills through our magic shoebox and are working hard on their overarm throws and catches. We have been practicing bouncing the ball in front and then creating a bucket with our hands to catch the ball. Release, bucket catch is the phrase that we have been using.

Grade 1 and 2:

Grade 1s and 2s are continuing to develop their Fundamental Motor Skills through magic shoe box. They have been progressing really well with their throwing and will start to use their skills in some minor games coming up.

Grades 3-6s:

Our grade 3s have been finishing up their work on Teeball and have been showing us how they can communicate as a team of fielders to get the strikers out with even some games having a double out. As a striking team they have been working very hard on finding the gaps in the field and knowing when to push certain bases.

Grade 4s have been learning about Danish longball! They have had to adapt and develop strategies to work as a team to get the strikers out and prevent them from making as many runs as possible.

Grade 5s have transitioned from Cricket to Softball and have brought their fielding strategies with them. They have been playing full games of softball and focusing on when the best time to hold a base or run to the next.

Grade 6s: The grade 6s have been working on creating their own games and have spent the last 2 weeks trailing their games and tweaking them to make sure that they can be played without too many problems.
