Visual Arts News
Prep students have been learning about the visual art element of shape while creating self-portraits. Using a monochromatic colour scheme with a primary colour, students are thinking about what shapes they can use to create facial features, such as a triangle shape for a nose. Prep students also have started creating clay discs, manipulating and using natural materials to design their own disc sculpture.
Grade 1 & 2 students have been inspired by Pete Cromer, a contemporary Australian artist from Victoria. Students used watercolour paints and textured paper to create underwater collages with either a dugong or a seal. Students have also been manipulating clay to create pet rocks, thinking about what colours they would like to use to colour their clay sculpture.
Grade 3 & 4 students have been working on self-portraits and focusing on visual conventions of art to express themselves as artists through their work. Inspired by Erin Elsley, students have used oil pastels to draw their faces and elements about themselves. Students have also been manipulating clay to create a small door sculpture. The appearance of their doors should give a hint as to what is inside the door, using different textures by pinching, rolling, pinching and poking the clay.
Grade 5 & 6 students have been making a steampunk robot out of recycled materials. They used found objects and added features and details, then painted their robots using metallic paint to create the steampunk-inspired look of their robots. Students have been discussing their creative process and reflecting upon how they have been successful artists this term.
Stay creative!
