Anniversary of the National Apology Day to Stolen Generations

Friday 13 February 2026

🖤💛❤️ THE NATIONAL APOLOGY

13 February 2008

🇦🇺 What Happened?

On this day, the Australian Government said a big, important SORRY to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

🧡 Why Did They Say Sorry?

Because in the past, unfair laws and actions hurt many First Nations people — especially the Stolen Generations, who were children taken from their families.

🏛️ Where Did It Happen?

At Parliament House in Canberra. Prime Minister Kevin Rudd stood in front of the nation and said the apology.

👥 Who Was There?

Members of the Stolen Generations were invited to listen in person. Thousands more watched on big screens inside and outside Parliament House. People all across Australia saw it on TV.

🤝 Why It’s Important

The Apology was a big step toward healing, respect, and understanding. We remember this day every year.
