Foundation

What an exciting (but very hot!) start to our schooling the Foundation students have had!

We were all smiles last Friday for our first day - having our photos taken in the courtyard before heading in to our new classrooms.

It was a busy time getting to know our new friends, being creative when making our first day crowns and learning the new routines and expectations within our school. It was fun exploring the school yard and playing on the playground before cooling down with a zooper dooper.

This week we have been learning about patterns and the 5 L's of Learning.

Our Wednesday 'rest day' is a good opportunity to slow down and relax at home. We have four Wednesday rest days remaining.

Just a reminder to bring in art smocks and to wear St Augustine's sports shorts on sport days.

Years 1 and 2

It has been wonderful to see so many happy, smiling faces back at school to begin 2026. The students have settled beautifully into their new learning spaces and routines, and it has been lovely to see their confidence grow so quickly as they reconnect with friends and learning.

Reminders

  • Students are encouraged to read at home each night. Please ensure reader bags are sent to school with your child each morning.

  • Please ensure your child brings a clearly named school hat each day, as hats are required for outdoor play and learning.

  • Art smocks are very helpful for keeping uniforms clean. A tub is available in the classroom for students to store their smocks.

  • Library books can only be borrowed with a library bag, so please remember to send this along on your child’s library day.

  • Sneakers/runners may be worn on your child’s sport day.

  • We enjoy a daily fruit break, so please pack a healthy fruit snack in your child’s lunchbox.

We have started the year by getting to know each student through literacy and numeracy assessments to help us identify their individual learning needs. In literacy, we are looking forward to beginning our InitiaLit program, where students will build their knowledge of spelling patterns, reading fluency and writing skills.

In Mathematics, Year 1 students will be collecting data using tally marks and creating picture graphs, while Year 2 students will continue strengthening their understanding of place value.

In Religious Education, our first unit is We Grow in God’s Love, where students will explore ways to show kindness, care, and compassion towards others.

We are excited for a wonderful year of learning ahead and look forward to working together with you and your child. Please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions or concerns - we are always happy to help.

Years 3 and 4

Students in Years 3 and 4 have settled in beautifully to their new learning spaces and routines. It has been wonderful to see their enthusiasm and positive attitudes as they begin the school year.

In English, the Year 3 students have started reading their class novel, 'Matilda' by Roald Dahl. The students are thoroughly enjoying the story and are already engaging in rich discussions about the characters, humour and key events. This text will support their learning across reading, writing and comprehension throughout the term.

The Year 4 students are reading the novel, 'Kensuke's Kingdom' by Michael Morpurgo which is about a family who went on a sailing trip around the world. They will be engaging in a Zoom session with Jamie and Behan from 'Totem Sailing' who have been sailing around the world for several years. They will learn why they have chosen to do this and use their responses to help write a persuasive text.

In Religious Education, students have been learning about our school Patrons and Houses, including St Augustine, Daniel Delany and Brigid of Kildare. They explored the lives and values of each Patron and expressed their understanding through thoughtful sketches. These activities have encouraged reflection and a deeper connection to our school community.

We are looking forward to an exciting term of learning ahead.
