Living Well, Learning Well
Whole School Response Strategy
Armidale Catholic Schools has developed a Response Strategy Sequence to use in the classroom when students are displaying behaviours that are interrupting the learning of others. Through consultation with our staff, we have developed processes to support this strategy. The key elements involved in this sequence are opportunities for redirection and the teaching of replacement behaviours, as well as time to reset through the use of going to another classroom, known as a 'Reset Room'. Students will be asked to go to a 'Reset Room' after several reminders and opportunities to change their behaviour. In the 'Reset Room', the students will be given a reflection task and time to regulate and reset, and another chance to change their behaviour. We thank parents for their support in allowing all students the opportunity to learn at school.
Focus for the Fortnight
Last year, we implemented a Living Well, Learning Well focus each week or fortnight as a way to explicitly teach and reinforce these concepts. The focus is discussed at Friday morning assemblies, as well as being explicitly taught and revised in the classrooms each day. We will continue to publish the fortnight's focus in our newsletter so we can work in partnership with our parents to reinforce concepts aligned with the school's 3 Rules for Living: I am Safe, I am Valued, Respected and Cared For, and I am a Learner.
