Foundation Cluster News
Welcome to Week 2.
We have loved getting to know your little people this week and look forward to continuing to build relationships with both you and them.
We understand there is lots of information to get your head around, whether this is your first little one in Foundation at GGLPS or your last. Our newsletter comes out weekly so please keep checking if for new information on whats going on in the classroom and in the school community.
For absences, please phone the office on 8282 6000 or email both the office office@goldengrove.sa.edu.au and your child’s teacher by 9.00am.
Morning Routine: Students arrive between 8.30-8.45am. They bring water bottles and Take Home Folders into class.
Lunchboxes: Please provide your child with fresh fruit/vegetables that are already cut up and/or easy to eat within 5 minutes. Please pack more food than you think your child needs, Growing bodies and minds mean hungry bellies.
Drink bottles (water only) are essential.
It is helpful if your child has applied sunscreen prior to coming to school. We encourage reapplication of sunscreen during the day at school.
Hats must be worn during Terms 1 and 4.
Please label all your child’s items clearly.
Toddle:
Information will be sent out by Admin for families to join Toddle this week. Please check your "junk/spam" emails incase the Toddle invite is there. Please reach out to the front office if you need technical support with this.
We post important information, reminders, student learning, photos/videos and assessments on this platform.
Wednesday Rest Day:
Just a reminder that the first 5 Wednesdays on Term 1 are optional rest days for new Foundations. This will especially be important this week due to the extreme heat, tiring the children even more than usual. We strongly recommend families to use these days to provide their children with the rest that they need to regulate emotions and have a successful start to school. The purpose of having rest days is to build up their learning stamina, as we consider a lot of the children would be used to having three days of Kindergarten and this looks different to them having five days of Foundation learning. We ask you consider this opportunity to enable your child to rest on those days and help them to slowly get used to being at school for five full days. All students will be here on the 11th March. No new content will be introduced on Wednesdays up until this date to ensure that children will not be missing new sounds, Maths concepts or any other learning. We trust that you know what is best for your child and their needs.
Take home folders: We will have take home folders ready for each child to take home on Monday of Week 2. They are to come to school every day. Students will need these for notes to be sent home, take home craft they make during the day and new sounds will be placed in this folder from Week 3 onwards.
Library
Our Library Day will begin Wednesday Week 2. We will begin to visit the library and borrow books. Please label your child’s library bag (this came home in their Take Home Folder.)
Pick up information:
In order to assist the children and teachers with end of the day procedures we would like to know your child’s pick-up details.
There is a poster inside the classroom door with pick up options. Please fill this out at your soonest convenience.
We are then able to reassure your child at the end of the day. If your plans change on any given day, please ring through to the office and they will inform us via the ‘message’ tray of the changes or tell us in the morning at drop off. During teaching hours, we often don’t have time to check emails.
Family photo: We would love a family photo to put on our family wall in the classroom for children to look at when they miss their family during the day. Please either send a hard copy photo in or email one to us and we can print it off.
Chapel/assembly: Our Foundations will not be attending weekly assembly or chapel until Week 6 to help them settle into the routines of school.
Volunteers: We love having volunteers in the classroom, if you are interested in volunteering, there a few things you will need to have to be able to help in the classroom.

- Responding to Abuse, Harm and Neglect training (RRHAN-EC)
