Wellbeing

Thank you to the families who were able to attend our first Wellbeing and Connection Conversations. This time provided a valuable opportunity for parents to meet with our teachers to share how their child has settled in, how they are feeling about school and how we can best support their wellbeing and engagement at school.
By sharing insights about friendships, engagement in learning, classroom participation and overall wellbeing, we are able to celebrate successes and identify any areas where additional support may be helpful. These conversations support the important partnership between home and school, ensuring we continue to work collaboratively in supporting every child’s sense of belonging, confidence and connection to our Balambalam community.
We greatly appreciate the time families took to attend and contribute positively to these conversations. When parents and teachers work together, our students are best supported to thrive both socially and academically.
Strategies to support conversations at home:
- Create a predictable check-in time - Choose a calm moment (e.g., during dinner, car rides, or before bed) for regular school conversations.
- Ask open-ended questions - Move beyond “How was school?” to prompts that invite reflection and storytelling. Try asking: Who made you smile today? Was there a moment that felt challenging? Did you help someone or did someone help you? When did you feel most proud of yourself?
- Focus on feelings and effort, not just achievement - Encourage children to talk about challenges, friendships and growth as a learner.
- Share your own experiences - Model openness by briefly sharing something you learned or found challenging during your day. It is okay to be vulnerable with your children.
Celebrate small wins - Acknowledge your child's effort, kindness, bravery and improvement each day and week.
When our children see the important adults in their lives showing interest in their learning and wellbeing, it strengthens their confidence, motivation and sense of belonging at school. We look forward to continuing to grow together.
