Learning

Reading at home is one of the best ways to support your child’s learning. We encourage all students to read at home every night for 10–15 minutes.
From Monday the 2nd of March, Year 1 and 2 students will begin bringing home take-home reading books. These books will be selected to match the reading skills students have learnt at school.
Foundation students will begin bringing home books later in the term, once they have learned more letter sounds and can begin blending sounds to read words. This helps students feel confident and successful when they start reading at home.
Our Year 3–6 students will be able to borrow library books once our school library is ready. Until then, we encourage students to keep reading at home each night. Families may like to borrow books from the local library such as Cranbourne Library, which offers free membership and a wide range of children's books.
Students will also bring home a reading journal or diary to record the books they read at home.
We will also be holding a parent information session in mid-March to explain how we teach reading at Balambalam and how families can support reading at home. More details will be shared soon.
Thank you for supporting your child's reading at home.
