Art

Welcome back to the Art Room! 🎨
It has been wonderful to see students returning to art lessons with such enthusiasm and creativity over the past two weeks to classes with either myself or Mrs Goodwin or Mrs Upton.
Our initial focus has been on establishing expectations in the art space through our school’s PROUD values. We have spent time discussing what these values look like in the art room, with a particular emphasis on being ‘DARING’— encouraging students to take creative risks, try new techniques, and feel confident sharing their ideas. Students have been reminded that art is a place for exploration, learning, and growth, and that mistakes are an important part of the creative process.
Grade 1 and 2 students have already completed their first artwork for the year: a vibrant self-portrait. They explored colour using paint dabbers to create expressive backgrounds, before drawing themselves using black marker. This activity allowed students to experiment with colour, line, and personal expression while building confidence in their artistic choices.
We are looking forward to an exciting year ahead, filled with creativity, experimentation, and mess making in the art room! Feel free to pop in after school if you ever need to chat.
Kind regards
,Justine Carlin – Head of Art
