Deputy Principal's Report

Learning Around the School
It has been a wonderful fortnight of learning across our school. Mrs Sirianni has proudly sent many of our Year 2 students to the office to share their fantastic writing and illustrations as they learn to express their feelings using a range of emotions in Italian. This was very imprresive as they read each sentence in Italian and English. In Year 1, students have engaged thoughtfully in social emotional learning, discussing their classroom expectations and exploring what the word respect truly means to them. They then explored what this would look like, sound like and feel like. Our Prep students have begun nurturing their love of books, thoroughly enjoying their Friday visits to the library. Across the school, students also began their Inform and Empower sessions this fortnight, where they explored how to remain safe when using their devices and how to make responsible choices online.
Congratulations also to our district swimming team for their hard work, team spirit and dedication in the pool at Wednesday’s District Swimming Carnival. We are very proud of you all!
PMP in Prep and Year 1
Our Perceptual Motor Program (PMP) is off to a strong start with our Preps and Year 1's in full gear each Monday. Our PMP program offers a structured set of movement activities designed to help children develop the connection between their bodies and their brains. It focuses on skills like balance, coordination, spatial awareness, and body control through fun, play‑based tasks. These activities strengthen the neural pathways that support learning, attention, and confidence in the classroom.
Children who participate in PMP often show improvements in concentration, handwriting, reading readiness, and overall physical confidence. It’s a gentle, engaging way to build the foundational skills that support both academic learning and everyday life. Someones difficulties can present in the classroom or at home which could potentially be linked to developing perceptual motor abilities. Below are some key activities that you could try out if you see any behavioural patterns in your own child at home.
NAPLAN Preparation
We have our annual NAPLAN tests coming up for our Year 3 and Year 5 students over the next two weeks. NAPLAN doesn’t need to be a big deal. In fact, the calmer and more ordinary the week feels, the better children tend to do.
Here are some tips to get you through the week.
• Keep the morning calm and unhurried. A predictable routine helps kids feel settled.
• Offer a good breakfast. Nothing fancy, just something filling and familiar.
• Focus on effort, not results. Remind them that trying their best matters far more than any score.
• Keep perspective. NAPLAN is just one snapshot of learning, not a measure of their worth or potential.
• Encourage a positive mindset. A simple “You’ve got this” goes a long way.
