Standard 1: Culturally Safe Environment

Child Safe Standard 1 requires Victorian organisations to establish a culturally safe environment for Aboriginal children and young people. It mandates that organisations value, respect, and support the diverse, unique identities and experiences of Aboriginal children, proactively identifying and tackling racism.

As part of our commitment to Child Safe Standards, our school continues to ensure that all staff and volunteers are well trained and supported to keep children safe and promote their wellbeing.

At St Joseph’s, we support child safety and wellbeing through:

  • maintaining Child Safety Risk Registers to identify and manage potential risks
  • implementing our Bully and Harassment Policy to promote respectful and safe interactions
  • actively participating in NAIDOC Week and Harmony Week to celebrate diversity, inclusion, and belonging
  • ongoing teacher education to ensure staff remain informed, skilled, and committed to best practice

Together, these practices strengthen our shared responsibility to ensure every child in our community is safe, valued, and supported.
