Kindness
Showing our school value of kindness is so important during Term 1. Whether it’s a Grade 6 Buddy helping a Prep or a friendly "hello" at the school gate, small acts of compassion help every child feel a sense of belonging. By leading with kindness, we create a safe, supportive environment where students feel confident to take risks in their learning and build lasting friendships.
Kindness in the classroom is about more than just "being nice"—it’s about building a culture where everyone feels safe to learn and grow. At SJV, these small actions often have the biggest impact on a student's sense of belonging.
Here are some examples of kindness in our classrooms this week:
Quiet Encouragement: Giving a "thumbs up" or a whisper of "you’ve got this" when a friend is nervous about presenting or answering a question.
Sharing Resources: Offering a spare pencil or glue stick before being asked showing that you’re looking out for your friends.
Active Listening: Showing kindness doesn't always require speaking; sometimes it’s giving a classmate your full attention while they share their ideas.
The "One Extra": Picking up your own rubbish, plus one extra piece that isn't yours, helps keep the classroom a pleasant place for everyone.
The "Friendship Chair": If someone is sitting alone invite them to join your group.
In a world where we can be anything - be KIND!
