DIAMOND VALLEY DISTRICT SWIMMING CARNIVAL
On Wednesday 18th February, 28 Greenhills PS students represented our school at the Diamond Valley District Swimming Carnival held at WaterMarc.
The Greenhills Swim Team finished 3rd overall out of 10 schools, which is a fantastic achievement. All students, regardless of their results, should be extremely proud of their efforts and the way they demonstrated our school values throughout the day. A compliment we consistently receive from other schools and members of the community is how impressive our students are — and this event was no exception.
Congratulations to the students who qualified (by finishing 1st or 2nd in their events) for next week’s Division Swimming Carnival. We wish you the very best of luck!

COMMUNITY SPORTING ACHIEVEMENTS
Congratulations to Asher P (6SM), who recently competed in her first showjumping competition with her new horse, Candy, at the Mountain District Horse & Pony Club Showjumping Day.
In their very first competition together, Asher and Candy achieved an outstanding result, finishing Reserve Champion on the day — only just missing out on Champion by four seconds! What a fantastic achievement.
Asher will also be representing the CLC Equestrian Team this year, with plenty of exciting competitions and adventures ahead.
Well done, Asher! 💪🏼
If your child achieves something special (grand final win, most valuable player award, best and fairest etc.), please email me (jordan.daley@education.vic.gov.au) through photos and an overview of the achievement to post in Contact. It is important to celebrate and recognise such successes with the school community.
Thank you,
Jordan Daley
High Impact Learner Agency Trait - Being Persistent
We are very excited to learn about our new High Impact Learner Agency Trait that is going to help us be the best learners we can be — Being Persistent!
Being Persistent links to our other agency traits of Acting with Courage and Being Open to the New. We have to act with courage to keep persisting, and we have to be open to trying new strategies and ideas if what we are doing doesn’t quite work. Being persistent means having a can-do attitude and not giving up when things get hard. It means being curious, asking questions, and staying determined in your desire to learn. Being persistent is using grit and determination to keep working toward your goals, even when you make mistakes or face challenges. When we develop persistence, we begin to push past limits we once thought were impossible and focus on learning and growth rather than failure. This helps create a cycle of “success upon success. "In our classrooms, we are reflecting on how we can move through the continuum — from a directed/diligent learner, to a , to a self-regulated learner, to an extended learner, and finally be that unbound learner — the rocket ship!
We are learning that when we have that can-do attitude, we can achieve so much in our learning. The Year 1s recently learned about Thomas Edison and how he invented the light bulb. He tried 1,000 times before he was successful. He didn’t think of those 1,000 attempts as failures, but as 1,000 ways that wouldn’t solve the problem. What a wonderful mindset for us to think about as learners.
We might try to spell a tricky word 10 times before it is correct. What we are really learning is not just how to spell that word, but the strategies we can use to help us spell it. Each attempt helps us grow.
We have loved hearing about how our students have been persistent at home. Some examples have included riding a bike without training wheels, trying something new at a gymnastics party, and reading a book at home with tricky words. Being reflective about our successes helps our children understand that persistence is at the heart of achievement.
To help your children be persistent at home, you can look to the language of the Extended Learner. Ask your child what they are finding challenging at school or what they are excited about and how you can work together at home to persist and help them climb that ladder of success.
Some examples might include:
- In Maths today we had to count backwards. I am finding this challenging — can we practise counting backwards at home?
- Today we learned about being organised. At home I want to practise packing my own bag and being responsible for remembering what I need to bring to school.
- I am finding reading at home tricky. Can you listen to me read and encourage me to break up those tricky words?
- Today I learned about figurative language. Can you help me understand some of the figurative language you use and what it means?
- Today we learnt about persuasive writing. I am really excited. Can I try to convince you of something tonight to help me come up with persuasive ideas?
The Learner Agency Traits are at the heart of what helps our students learn. We look forward to how you can use our HILAT language at home so we can continue to develop your children’s confidence as learners.
Things might be tricky but remember - Be Persistent!

The annual CSEF amount per student is $400 for eligible school students.
