Year 1/2

In the past two weeks, there has been lots of exciting learning happening in the junior building! 

 

In Literacy, students have continued exploring informative texts and learning about their different features. We have been reading a range of engaging texts about animals and space, and students have especially enjoyed using the iPads for buddy reading activities. We have also had the opportunity to create our very own fact files on a dinosaur of our choice, and we have LOVED learning about the many different types of dinosaurs!

In Maths, we have continued learning all about calendars and time. Students have been practising the days of the week, months of the year and calculating how long there is between different events and celebrations. We have enjoyed singing fun songs, reading stories and using books such as Diary of a Worm to help us think about time and sequencing events.

We have also been focusing on becoming more independent learners in the classroom. Students have been practising using the “3 Bs, Brain, Board, Buddy” to help them problem solve independently before asking the teacher for help. It has been wonderful to see students growing in confidence and resilience during their learning tasks. 

To support learning at home, families might like to: 

● Look at calendars together and practise counting how many days are between special events or celebrations. 

● Read informative texts together and discuss interesting facts about animals or topics of interest. 

 

As always, we continue to celebrate students who demonstrate our school values through our Learning Legend awards. It is lovely to see students supporting and encouraging one another each day!

As an experienced teacher in bilingual education, I am excited to be working with your child one day each week as part of the Year 1/2 teaching team. I am committed to creating a positive, engaging, and supportive learning environment where every student feels valued, encouraged, and confident to participate.

 

Working closely alongside the 1/2 team, I aim to support consistency in learning and ensure a smooth continuation of classroom programs and routines.
