From the Principal

Grandi cose in movimento!
How great has it been to watch all the progress happening around the school grounds!
- The new turf installation has been slightly delayed by the recent rain, however the crew is aiming to complete laying the surface today. Sand will then be applied on Monday morning (weather permitting), with the temporary fencing expected to come down Monday afternoon. We’re hoping the area will be ready for students from Tuesday. Plans are afoot for a celebratory Staff vs Students netball game to christen the new space (thanks Jack! 😊)
- Our new nature play area will also open once access to the turf is available. To begin with, we’ll introduce a year-level rotation system to help students enjoy the space safely.
- Roof works on the main building are scheduled to begin on or shortly after June 9. Scaffolding and temporary fencing will be installed first, followed by roof repairs which are expected to take approximately 6–7 weeks, weather permitting. Much of this work will occur during the school holidays, with completion hopefully by Week 3 of Term 3. Temporary exclusion zones will be in place as required for safety. Further information will be shared once we receive the detailed works schedule.
- Internal painting works will mostly take place during the holidays, with some smaller areas completed earlier. We’ll continue to keep families updated as works progress.
Lavori insieme
A huge thank you to everyone who attended our working bee last weekend!. So much was achieved through the generous efforts of our BSPS community.
Our Area Gioco nella Natura is truly beginning to take shape, and what has been dreamed about and talked about for some time is now becoming a reality. Thank you to everyone who contributed and helped bring this vision to life.
Our merry team of volunteers worked on our Giardino delle Fate, complete with palazzi delle fate, painted our upcycled picket fence, planted native shrubs and plants and built the Great (Retaining) Wall of Brunswick, among other things. The transformation of this previously under-utilised space has been incredible.
Again, this has been possible thanks to fundraising efforts and donations to the BSPS Building Fund, and the elbow-grease of families. Imparare insieme, creare insieme, vivere insieme!
Sport Interscolastico
Congratulations to the many 5/6 students who have represented BSPS in interschool sport so far this year, proudly competing as Insieme United in our signature hot pink jerseys! We’re only in our 2nd year of participating in the School Sports Victoria competition, and Jack has done a fantastic job of building up our participation and a positive, inclusive sporting culture in this short space of time.
For example, it’s amazing to think that last year we weren’t able to field an AFL side, but this year, we fielded 2 and both did brilliantly well. It is a pleasure to see the pride and smiling faces as the teams get back to school, and to hear about the shining examples of sportspersonship demonstrated on the field. Please refer to a play-by-play report of last week’s soccer competition further in this newsletter, written by some of the soccer stars themselves.
As we continue to build and refine the program at our school, we’ve set up a Sport Interscolastico noticeboard (by the main stairs), and some general information and guidelines for students and spectators. This can also be found further in this newsletter.
Ciao for now,
Kristie
